The very first public own publication in Myitkyina, Kachin State and totally free and fair. Myitkyina News Journal will contain news and information on Kachin and Northern Shan State and pay particular attention to news about the human rights situation, Kachin politics, the civil war and peace negotiations, environmental issues, land confiscation, human and drug trafficking, entertainment news, interviews, editorials and opinion, and letters to the editor. The Myitkyina News Journal will distribute 8,000 copies per issue across the country especially in Kachin State, Northern Shan State, Mandalay, and Rangoon. Myitkyina News Journal will carry in-depth reports on political developments in Kachin State,including; the status of ceasefire agreements between the Burmese government and the Kachin Independence Organizations and implications for national reconciliation; internally displaced persons (IDP); growing activism and the development of civil society in Burma in Kachin State; environmental issues and efforts to protect Burma’s natural resources, particularly the Myitsone hydro-electric dam project. The newspaper will rely on a team of stringers and reporters based in Kachin state to collect news and information.
