The Bible, formerly the Holy Bible and Biblia, is the holy book of Christianity and Judaism (Old Testament), the canon, i.e. a collection of instructive texts. In the texts of the Bible, we look for and listen to God's speech and search for the right way to live as a person and as a community. In the Bible, people have written what they have seen, heard and believed.

The original Bible as a unified collection of books does not exist, but in the beginning there was a large number of different texts that have developed independently and were later canonized, i.e. joined as part of the Bible.

The Bible tells us to love God above all else and our neighbor as ourselves. The Bible used by Christians is divided into the Old Testament and the New Testament. The double commandment of love is the most important commandment, it summarizes the Old and New Testaments. The New Testament describes how God comes close to man in Jesus' teaching, life, death and resurrection.

The Hebrew and Christian Bibles are actually a collection of books, a kind of miniature library. There are 66 (39 + 27) separate books in the Protestant Bible. These books are written by about 36 primary authors. The Bible is the most widely distributed book in the world.
