The Public Works Department has a glorious history spanning more than 150 years. Public Works Department, Government of Maharashtra. It is mainly entrusted with construction and maintenance of roads, bridges, and government buildings. The department also acts as the technical advisor to the State Government.

The Public Works Department has constructed over 1,05,000 km of road network, and all these roads are regularly maintained and repaired by the Department. There are three types of roads maintained by the Department: Major District Roads, State Highways, and Major State Highways. Roads get potholes after monsoon, so the department has to face the wrath of the citizens. Pothole Complaint Redressal System (PCRS) has been developed to raise the image of the department among citizens by resolving pothole complaints. The PCRS Android app is made available to the general public in the Google Play store. By installing the said app on their mobile phones, common citizens can register pothole complaints in a very simple manner by activating GPS on their phones. Accurate information about the road on which the pothole is located will be communicated through the computerized system to the concerned Sectional Engineer, Deputy Engineer and Executive Engineer of the office to which the pothole road is attached, The citizen will receive the complaint number along with the name of the pothole road, and taluka through SMS. Once the complaint is resolved, the citizen will be notified via SMS. He can also track the status of Pothole on the PCRS app.
