Petronas Towers Malaysia

Petronas Towers are twin towers located in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia. The Petronas Twin Towers, the tallest twin skyscraper in the world between 1998 and 2004, is also the administration building of Petronas Petrol Holding.

The 452-meter-high Petronas towers, unfortunately, lost the title of being the tallest skyscraper in the world with the completion of the Taipei 101 building in 2004.

In the Petronas towers, the towers are connected by a steel bridge between the 41st and 42nd floors at an altitude of 170 meters. The bridge was opened for use in 2000. This bridge is 58 meters long and weighs 750 tons. 1700 free tickets for the bridge visit are distributed at 8.30 in the morning of that day and are usually all sold out within 2 hours. The extreme roof of the towers is not open to visitors.

The Petronas towers provide space for several shopping malls, the natural sciences museum "Petrosains," a symphony orchestra, an art gallery, and many offices.

Each of the Petronas towers has 76 elevators, 29 of which are double-deck elevators that carry 26 people at a time. There are 32,000 windows in the building, of which 37,000 tons of steel are used for the construction.

The architectural design of the Petronas towers was made by the architectural firm "César Pelli & Associates Architects." In this work, the bureau has used its experience in tower projects they have done before. One of them is the "Miglin-Beitler Skyneedle" project in Chicago, which has not been built. Both towers show similar characteristics. Architect César Antonio Pelli created a structure based on Islamic architecture from steel, concrete, and glass.

The Petronas towers were primarily designed as business buildings and, with their traditional twin concept, can be compared to the World Trade Center in New York. The best view of the Petronas towers is from Menara Kuala Lumpur at an altitude of 421 m. Since Menara KL is located on a hill, it also rises from the top of the Petronas towers. Thus, from here, a view of the two gigantic towers is provided from above, which is even more impressive at night.
