Julio José Iglesias Puga de la Cueva better known as Julio Iglesias, (Madrid, September 23, 1943) is a former Spanish footballer, singer, composer and businessman of international fame.

Iglesias initially devoted himself to his sports career, with the aim of becoming a professional football player. He served on the Real Madrid youth team, in the position of goalkeeper, between 1958 and 1962. But, on the night of September 22, 1963, when he was 20 years old, when driving his car between Majadahonda and Madrid, together with the his friends Enrique Clemente Raised, Toto Arroyo and Pedro Luis, Iglesias suffered a tragic accident that left him semi-paralyzed for a year and a half, with little chance of being able to walk again. Admitted to the Eloy Gonzalo hospital in Madrid, he started to write romantic poems that delighted one of the nurses who attended him; they found a guitar for Julio, who turned his poems into music.
