As the number of telehealth visits in the United States has steadily increased during the COVID-19 pandemic, both patients and clinicians have expressed high levels of satisfaction with the convenience and efficiency of these visits. However, clinicians have also reported challenges with telehealth, including diagnostic difficulty without the ability to conduct a full physical exam.

During a traditional in-person visit, a physician uses inspection, palpitation, auscultation, and percussion to gather information about a patient's health. Unfortunately, these standard elements of the physical exam are not available to a physician during a telehealth encounter, with the exception of inspection for video-based telehealth visits. Even inspection can be challenging due to issues with video quality, patient tech savviness, and the use of a single device for both communication and as a camera.

To address these challenges, Remotex is focusing on developing cost-effective, disposable smartphone accessories and associated HIPAA compliant applications that use artificial intelligence to collect medical-grade images, videos, and audio recordings. By collecting this data through a patient self-administered pre-visit protocol or during the telehealth visit, we believe we can substitute a physical exam and make telehealth a cost-effective alternative to traditional in-person care, with the added benefits of improved access, early diagnosis and prevention, and better outcomes.
