RFC con CURP Info

The government uses the Federal Taxpayer Registry, an alphanumeric identifier, to identify people and companies that carry out any type of economic activity in Mexico.

This code is made up of 12 characters for companies and 13 characters for individuals.

In the case of people, it is made up of the following characters:

✅ Usually, the initial characters of the password are the same as the father's last name. It consists of the initial letter and the first vowel of the last name.

✅ The first letter of the mother's last name is the third.

✅ The name is represented by the fourth element.

✅ The year of birth (0,0), the month (0,0) and the day (0,0) are combined to generate the next six characters (0,0).

✅ To avoid code duplication, the Tax Administration Service (SAT) assigns a homoclave of the three final numbers.

For entities that are legal, it will be composed of:

✅ The initials of the company or a combination of these will be the first three numbers.

✅ The year (0,0), the month (0,0) and the day (0,0) in which the company was founded will constitute the following six elements.

✅ The homoclave that the SAT assigned to the last three numbers.

There are already more than 41.6 million users registered with the RFC. There is only one type of registration; however, the tax regime in which each person is registered changes, according to the economic activity to which each person is dedicated.

The Condusef (National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services) list of the most significant tax regimes includes:

✅ Wages and salaries: This regime classifies those who earn money for doing services for others (subordinate personal service); Those who fall into this category are those who work for companies or government organizations.

v Provision of professional services: This category includes those who provide a service on their own account. They are self-employed as a dentist, architect, engineer and other professions.

Small businesses are grouped under this tax incorporation regime. The people who work under this regime run businesses or trades such as supermarkets, sundries, aesthetics, and mechanical workshops, among others. The advantage of this method is that taxpayers have access to social security and do not have to pay taxes for the first year after starting their business. In addition, they can request aid to start or expand their business, such as financial aid.

How do you get the RFC?

The CURP (Clave Única de Registro de Población), being a citizen or resident in Mexico and being at least 18 years of age are requirements to obtain the RFC. The procedure is free.

The procedure can be carried out at the offices of the Tax Administration Service or online (SAT).
