Sandbag

The climate numbers you need. Real-time & 24 hour forecasts for UK electricity carbon intensity. Track the EU carbon price and global atmospheric CO2 concentrations.

A live feed of three key numbers for everyone interested in tackling climate change:

For the UK: The national grid CO2 intensity. How clean is the electricity we are using; now and over the next 24 hours?

For Europe: The carbon price. How much does it cost polluters to emit greenhouse gases to the atmosphere?

For the world: The atmospheric CO2 concentration. How close is the planet to the threshold of runaway climate change?

Grid CO2 intensity

The app shows grid CO2 intensity now, and a forecast for the next 24 hours. You can see when electricity will be cleanest.

We show a breakdown of the balance between different generating types. Check the current supply percentage for wind vs coal, or solar vs gas.

EU carbon price

The app also includes the current and historical EU carbon price. See how much a tonne of CO2 pollution costs in the EU Emissions Trading Scheme.

Global CO2 concentration

Finally, we show the global atmospheric CO2 concentration.

Track the speed at which humanity is surging towards the 450ppm CO2 ‘danger threshold’ that world governments have pledged to avoid.

Sandbag

A UK-based not-for-profit think tank conducting research and campaigning for environmentally effective climate policies.

We focus on the phase-out of old coal in Europe; deep decarbonisation of industry through technologies including Carbon Capture Utilisation & Storage; reform of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme; and increasing ambition in the EU 2020 and 2030 climate & energy packages.
