ScreenOffCam: Background Video

ScreenOffCam is a background video recorder: start a capture, turn the screen off, put the phone in your pocket or switch to another app, and the recording keeps going. Video, audio or photos — with every control in the notification and the screen dark to save battery.

It is built for the times when the preview is in the way: a phone on a tripod, a long lecture or meeting, a voice note that runs for hours, a sequence of photos taken at intervals, a recording that has to survive the screen going off.

FOUR CAPTURE MODES

- Video with audio

- Video only (silent)

- Audio only — a voice recorder that never opens the camera and never even asks for its permission

- Photos — a single shot, or an interval sequence (one photo every N seconds or minutes)

RECORDS WITH THE SCREEN OFF

The capture runs in a foreground service, not on the screen. Press back, press home, lock the phone: nothing is interrupted. Reopen the app whenever you like and you are back in the running session, exactly where it is.

CONTROLS IN THE NOTIFICATION

Start, pause, resume, stop, torch, switch front/back camera, open the last file — all from the notification, with elapsed time and file size updating live.

TIMERS

- Delayed start with countdown, with the camera warmed up beforehand so the first seconds are not lost

- Maximum duration, with the file closed cleanly when it is reached

- Photo interval of your choice

BUILT FOR LONG RECORDINGS

- Long videos are split automatically into numbered parts, and the next part starts without a gap

- Free space, temperature and battery are monitored: the file is closed properly instead of lost

- An incoming call takes the microphone away — the recording is saved instead of corrupted

WHERE THE FILES GO

Videos and photos in DCIM/ScreenOffCam, audio in Recordings/ScreenOffCam, named by date and time and visible in your gallery right away. Nothing is locked inside the app.

PRIVATE: NOTHING LEAVES YOUR DEVICE

No account. No ads. No analytics. ScreenOffCam does not even request the internet permission, so it cannot send anything anywhere. Your recordings are files on your phone, and that is all they are.

VISIBLE BY DESIGN

Android's privacy indicator stays on while the camera or microphone is in use, and the ongoing notification cannot be dismissed. A capture never starts by itself: it starts when you press Start. ScreenOffCam is a recorder for your own phone and your own recordings, and it is not intended for recording other people without their knowledge.
