Gastritis is an inflammation of the lining of the stomach. Acute gastritis can occur suddenly. Chronic gastritis occurs slowly. According to the Cleveland Clinic, 8 out of 1,000 suffer from acute gastritis, while 2 out of 10,000 suffer from chronic gastritis.
