Syllable reading

Younger children or children with reading difficulties are often challenged by multi syllabic words. These longer words are more difficult to read because they challenge working memory. To be able to read them successfully, the ability to split the word into more manageable chunks (syllables) is also required.

Add to this the necessity to apply phonics knowledge, sound ambiguity and word stress!

This app allows your child to train to read longer multi syllabic words, which are already broken into syllables with highlighted vowels, making it easier to decode the word and gain confidence and self-belief.

The syllables are traceable with a finger and the current syllable will be underlined.

The reading strategy is to pre-read multi syllabic words with the help of the app. When reading a book, a parent or a teacher inputs all multi syllabic words from a particular page (or pages) for a child to pre-read. After getting confidence with reading the words with the app, the child attempts to read the page on his own.

Enter the words divided into syllables with '-' symbol in the text box at the bottom of the screen. Use the lock button to prevent accidental clicks on the text box. To separate words into syllables use online syllables dividers or Syllable Dictionary.
