About Talk. They Hear You. Campaign

Get informed, be prepared, and take action to prevent underage substance use.

DESCRIPTION

The “Talk. They Hear You.”® campaign mobile app helps parents and caregivers prepare for some of the most important conversations they may ever have with their kids. It shows them how to turn everyday situations into opportunities to talk with their children about alcohol and other drugs, and equips them with the necessary skills, confidence, and knowledge to start and continue these conversations as their kids get older.

While the app is geared toward parents and caregivers of children under the age of 21, it’s also designed to help communities promote and implement the “Talk. They Hear You.” campaign locally and to help educators engage student assistance professionals, school leaders, and families in supporting the needs of students who may be struggling with substance use, mental health, or school-related issues.

KEY FEATURES

• A convenient way for parents and caregivers, educators, and community members to get informed, be prepared, and take action to prevent underage drinking and other drug use.

• Everyday situations and tips that can be used as opportunities to talk with your child or children about underage drinking and other drug use.

• An interactive practice simulation:

o Practice bringing up the topics of alcohol and other drugs;

o Record your practice talks and then listen to them to hone your skills;

o Hear what your child might say and practice how you would respond; and

o Learn ways to keep the conversation going.

• A link to Screen4Success, a tool to help you better understand your child’s health, wellness, and well-being, and find resources to address their needs.

• Informative resources you can download, order, and share, including videos, fact sheets, brochures, guides/toolkits, and more.

• Achievement badges you can earn each time you practice or have an actual conversation with your child.

DID YOU KNOW?

Parents and caregivers have a significant influence on whether their kids drink alcohol or use other drugs. The sooner you talk with your kids about underage drinking and other drug use, the greater chance you have of influencing their decisions.
