TELEO

The Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Hospital promotes this program to promote the training of specialists in medicine and nursing.

Continuing training in pediatric hematology and oncology is a necessity for all specialists involved in the oncological treatment of boys and girls around the world. But access to this training can be unequal depending on the country in which they are located, especially if it is carried out, as until recently, with attendance at conferences or face-to-face courses.

In this sense, the development of online training has made it possible to transfer continued education to platforms such as TELEO (Tele-education in Pediatric Oncology), which was created with the objective of supporting and strengthening local training programs for specialists in Latin America, and even providing of such training in those low- or middle-income countries where access to this training is not possible until now.

The TELEO program has the medical direction of doctors Guillermo Chantada, Ofelia Cruz and Andrés Morales La Madrid, leading specialists in the Oncology Area of ​​the Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Hospital.

Among the initial activities of TELEO is the teaching of a course based on the contents developed by the Latin American Society of Pediatric Oncology (SLAOP) in its “Course to support educational programs in Pediatric Hemato-Oncology.” The training action lasts two years, is taught in Spanish and Portuguese with a distance methodology and at no cost to its participants. The contents are of a high academic level and adapted to the context and needs of the global south.

Likewise, TELEO also promotes a discussion forum in pediatric nursing, an environment that reflects the conferences and courses held in 2018 and 2020, and that promotes the exchange of nursing knowledge in this matter.
