About The Athlete's Journal

English

Daily journal for athletes - Strengthen your mind, log training, and reach goals

"...athletes who journal become more engaged, self-aware and mentally sharp,

less stressed and better able to cope both on the mat and off." - Dr. Richard Kent, Author of writingathletes.com

"Writing has helped me clear my thoughts and make sense of everything from bad moods to great races. I use it as a tool in my everyday training..." - Taylor Lehr, D1 collegiate swimmer

[Thru journaling] "I was able to track my progress, learn what worked and what didn’t. I could figure out why I was tired and see if I over- or under-estimated my training." - Roisin McGettigan, 2003 track and field Olympian

The Athlete’s Journal helps dedicated athletes from all backgrounds reach their peak potential by guiding their thoughts and actions through the use of an athlete specific journal.

WHY YOU NEED AN ATHLETE’S JOURNAL

Whether you’re a benchwarmer in high school, an all-star in a division 1 program, or chasing a personal fitness achievement, writing in an athletic journal is an excellent tool for learning and growth in your sport and ultimately life.

Sports psychologists and coaches have used writing with athletes for decades and research shows that writing can help any athlete:

- reduce stress and anxiety

- increase self-awareness

- sharpen mental skills

- promote genuine psychological insight

- advance creative inspiration and insight

- strengthen coping abilities

We worked with coaches ranging from Olympic to high school levels that have studied and practiced journaling with their own athletes to bring you the journaling exercises that are proven to help athletes.

MORNING ENTRY

Start your day by aligning with your vision and goals. Determine the small actions you can take in the day to move yourself forward.

Prepare your mind for what’s to come and form a plan of attack on how you will tackle the challenges of the day.

TRAINING LOG

Summarize the day’s workout(s). Note time, distance, intervals, temperature, equipment setup, and any other metrics of the workout.

Reflect on how the training went. Analyze your performance to see where you improved, or where you need to put in more work.

Writing allows you to pour out the rollercoaster of emotions that come with competing and make sense of everything. This is how you can grow and learn more about yourself, your sport, and the takeaways for next time.

EVENING ENTRY

Reflect on how your day went, what you accomplished, and the things you learned facing down any obstacles.

Think on what you could improve upon tomorrow, and end the night setting your sights on what you need to accomplish the next day. This ensures you’re not just going through the motions blindly, but are actively working towards your goals.

GOAL SETTING

This is the ultimate guide to your athletic career and life. Define your values, set your vision on where you want to be, and create goals, big & small, that will get you there. You will have a clear guide for making decisions and taking actions that align with your vision and goals!

TRENDS

Identify patterns in your training and life. By keeping a journal of your moods, nutrition, recovery levels, workout results, & more you will be able to see patterns emerge in your performance during practice and competition.

Learn what conditions gave you your best performance or the actions that led up to a poor result, and use this feedback to improve your training, recovery, and habits!

** SAY HI **

I created The Athlete’s Journal because I’ve experienced first hand the benefits of an athlete’s journal in my sports of cycling and triathlon. I want to help other dedicated athletes become the best they can be through the practice of journaling so I created this app. I’m always looking forward to feedback, and am working hard to improve the app. I encourage you to drop me a line at [email protected]

Happy training!

- Daniel
