About TrouvApp
Document surveys and finds, protect archaeological remains!
Archaeological surveys make a significant contribution to our understanding of past cultures. By carefully collecting and precisely documenting archaeological remains, you contribute to expanding this knowledge. The TrouvApp helps you accurately document your fieldwork and finds and easily submit them to your responsible department.
The application is designed for volunteer prospectors working in the field on behalf of archaeological departments. Using the app, your movements in the field are recorded. When you make a find, you immediately record the coordinates. This allows you to keep track of your survey activities and promptly inform your manager about the results.
You can also take photos and videos of the finds or your survey areas. If you have any updates to add at home, you can conveniently do so on your laptop using the web application. Once your survey is complete, you notify your manager in the app.
... Whitelist of authorized users: Registration is via a whitelist. If you are authorized as a prospector by a participating institution (cantonal archaeology department), you will receive an email invitation to register in the app. Contact the relevant office in your canton of residence for more information.
Track routes: The routes you take on your prospecting sites are recorded. This allows you and your manager to see which areas have been surveyed.
Measure finds: Using your smartphone's GPS function, you can record the location of your finds, eliminating the need for manual notes and tedious data entry in spreadsheets. You can see at any time which routes you have taken and where you have found items.
Document the find situation: Use photos and videos to document special find situations on site. Photos of the finds enable your manager to assess the significance of the site.
Adding supplementary information: You can easily add additional information or images related to your survey and finds in the web application.
Approving surveys: By approving your survey, you indicate to your manager that your part of the work is complete. Your manager can then download and process the data.
Offline data collection and synchronization: All data is initially stored only on your smartphone. You determine when to synchronize with the cloud server. However, you should ensure this is done as soon as possible after a survey, as all data will be lost if your smartphone is lost or damaged.
The TrouvApp is a joint development of the Cantonal Archaeology Departments of Aargau, Solothurn, and Basel-Landschaft.
