Traffic signs (short VZ) are part of the street furniture and serve for traffic control. They are ordered by the authorities and are solely responsible for observing road users.

All traffic signs are traffic signs catalog (short VzKat) listed. They can be classified according to their function different groups. The German road traffic regulations defined in § 39 para 2 sentence 2 StVO three sets of traffic signs.:

§ 40 road traffic regulations: Hazard signs warn of a hazard;

§ 42 Highway Code: directional signs provide information to facilitate traffic.
