The recently introduced 4D printing technology is seen as one of the innovative technologies that could overturn the existing product production process. As a product designer, I believe that the collaboration of product designers and engineers is essential for the advancement of new technologies, and that a suitable development tool for them have to also be developed. For 4D printing technology that is unfamiliar to current product designers and engineers, a new type of development tool will require to identify what existing persistent communication problems are between them to overcome it.

Virtual reality technology, which is emerging as a next generation communication method, can make to narrow the distance between physical times and space while providing a human viewing angle in virtual space. VR can be used as a better communication tool because it allows people feel like a real physical meeting, even if it is long distance. Communication using VR interface is expected to be an alternative to satisfy the needs of product designers and engineers for the development of 4D printing products in the future.
