Most of the southern shores of the Izmir Bay are located on the Peninsula. The proximity of Çeşme to Chios in the west and Karaburun to Lesbos in the north gives information about the intercontinental location of the region. With the Sarpıncık Lighthouse at the farthest point of Karaburun, the doors of the Aegean Sea open to the Mediterranean.
