Yomi

If you are studying Japanese and are looking for a way to practice reading and build your vocabulary, then Yomi is the app for you.

Yomi presents words in the context of a sentence to help you to practice reading Japanese. It employs a spaced repetition learning algorithm to assist your long term recall of the vocabulary. Read the sentence, and type the highlighted word into the answer box. No need for a special Japanese keyboard, Yomi will automatically convert romaji to hiragana, where necessary, as you type, allowing you to concentrate on reading.

Choose what you want to study: hiragana, katakana, and words from different JLPT levels in kanji and kana. Set your own pace by setting how many new words Yomi can introduce every day. You can even choose to have no new words, if you just want to review those you have already studied. Don’t worry if you miss a day, Yomi will not ask you double the new words the following day. You can also choose what time of day you want the quiz to be made available. Yomi will then create a lesson for you each day containing a combination of new words, and words that are due to review.
