Effective application supporting the preparation for the eighth grade exam

The eighth grade exam is the first major test in an educational career that may even determine the future. Thanks to a good result of the exam, students have a chance to enter their dream schools and, consequently, achieve professional success. However, the exam is still a kind of novelty; it has only been carried out for a few years.

At that time, we were surprised by the pandemic and distance learning. Many teenagers did not have access to the stable Internet necessary to participate effectively in classes. Teachers, on the other hand, were not able to monitor students' work as it happens at school. As a consequence, the students worked less efficiently; too long exposure to blue light of the computer caused various pain ailments and was responsible for a decrease in concentration and ability to learn. If you have also worked remotely, you can say that it does not positively affect self-discipline and efficiency. In the course of distance learning it is difficult to learn as much as in the same time spent in school in contact with the teacher. Therefore, a student aged 13-14 may have a problem with mastering the material on their own.

The situation in the world could not prevent the continuity of the eighth-grade exam. However, despite lowering the top-down requirements, the results were definitely not satisfactory. An influencing factor was the lack of attractive and substantive teaching aids that would help students in their preparation. And that's where we stepped in.

We are students of Secondary School No. 8 in Poznań, who share a passion for learning and helping. At the beginning of the school year, we heard about the only practical Olympics organized in Poland, "Released from Theory", which gives young people a chance to implement their own professional social project. This idea seemed perfect to us - we all saw the need for changes in education. And, as it happens with changes, it is not worth waiting: you have to start acting.

We knew that we wanted to help students with our knowledge, and because we recently wrote the eighth-grade exam ourselves and we know from experience what is worth learning, and how much we would like to use such a solution ourselves, the idea of ​​creating an application preparing for exams was born. ⅞ of our team (this male part) attends an IT class, so we had no problems with gathering the programmers. We are also happily fascinated with mathematics and / or languages, so you don't have to worry about boredom in the tasks.

From September, we started to meet regularly and gradually plan the project. We assumed that the application should be attractive, functional and refined in terms of content. We work on hundreds of original tasks prepared with the utmost care in terms of examination requirements. After the student completes the task, the answer will appear in the application with a comprehensive explanation. Points will be awarded for correct solutions. Additionally, it will include guides on selected scientific issues. Our app is free to meet the needs of all students. We also offer an application mode that is friendly to people with dyslexia.

Currently, the application is in the early access version. We do not stay still! You can expect many changes over the coming weeks. New functionalities and new tasks will be added.
