It is a book written by Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah after he was tested by some of the scholars of his time because of what he used to issue in fatwas not stipulating what is permissible in the race and struggle, so he showed approval to the public in order to quell and ward off strife.

He wrote this book and mentioned in it the issue of stipulating the permissible condition in the race, and included the evidence of both groups, then he pointed out those who denied this opinion and the fatwa based on it, and that the reason for that was relying on imitation, then he mentioned the provisions of mortgage in many issues related to shooting and racing.

In it, he talked about the types of horsemanship and its rulings, and that there are two types of horsemanship:

- Horsemanship of knowledge and statement.

- And equestrian throwing and stabbing.

He mentioned, may God have mercy on him, that it carries its people to the support of the Most Merciful, and drives them to the highest rooms of Paradise, and there are many benefits in the book on various topics.

Muhammad bin Abi Bakr bin Ayoub bin Saad Al-Zar’i Al-Dimashqi, Shams Al-Din, Abu Abdullah, known as Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah. One of the figures of Islamic religious reform in the eighth century AH. He was born in Damascus to Kurdish parents. He studied under Ibn Taymiyyah al-Dimashqi, who was also of Kurdish parents, and was influenced by him. His profession was the Imamate in Jawziyya. Teaching in Al-Sadria and other places. Addressing fatwas and writing. His contact with Ibn Taymiyyah. Historians agree that the date of the meeting was in the year 712 AH, which is the year in which he returned from his trips to Damascus and settled there until he died in Damascus in the year 751 AH.

What I found useful in this book is the distinction between what is gambling and what is not in the types of competitions such as competitions with horses, camels, or legs, as well as swimming, wrestling, and other sports. The author was proficient in this and useful. All of this is based on what is in the Qur’an and Sunnah and what was reported by the Companions and religious scholars.

The book concluded by talking about praising strength and courage and denouncing inability and cowardice, while mentioning the ranks of courage. Between this and that, he mentioned many rulings related to archery and racing without neglecting their etiquette, while mentioning the evils of archery and the method of correcting them.

I skipped reading some parts that deal with jurisprudential issues between what is permissible in racing and what is not permissible, the difference between betting and gambling, and some technical issues in shooting, but I enjoyed the light reading and completed it in a day.
