We talk in this application about the life of the Arabs in the past in the Arabian Peninsula
The pre-Islamic era is the era that precedes the mission of the Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), i.e. the pre-Islamic era, and it was called by this name as an expression of ignorance in religion, and not intellectual or civilizational ignorance. But what is meant by ignorance here is idolatry, rudeness, and foolishness, which was widespread in the character of the Arabs, i.e. ignorance.
In that era, characteristics such as severity and harshness spread due to the nature of the harsh environment in which the Arab man lived. It is an arid desert environment that forces one to live and move from place to place. Wars also spread between tribes for trivial reasons sometimes, and the Arabs believed in revenge deeply, but despite that, strength, chivalry, generosity, and dignity were known about them, just as the Arabs were known for their hospitality. They used to help the lost and secure them even if they were their enemies, and they were also known for forgiveness, but they stipulated that it be associated with ability, otherwise it would be weakness. In addition, courage and strength were among the most important qualities of an Arab, and an Arab was fond of horsemanship and always sought to play the championship role and feel victorious.
In the pre-Islamic era, women did not enjoy many rights. The habit of female infanticide spread; Because of the Arabs' vulgarity of females and their fear of transgression and disgrace to them, as they were deprived of inheritance. On the other hand, there was a category of free women who enjoyed other advantages, so they accompanied men in wars, took revenge, and they practiced trade, and they used to choose their husbands, and if they mistreated them, they would hate them.
The pre-Islamic era witnessed a clear poetic flourishing, and it was instinctive for them, so most classes of society mastered poetry. And the poet had a prestigious position in his tribe, so he was the protector of honor, the keeper of antiquities, and the transmitter of news, and he was singing about the tribe’s victories, lamenting its dead, and satirizing its enemies. Poetry reached a great position in pre-Islamic society with the Muallaqat poets and the trampy poets.
The society in Jahiliyyah was a tribal society, and those tribes consisted of groups, namely; The sons: the main pillar of the tribe and its pillar, and they are linked to each other by blood and lineage, and the mawali: they are the freedmen of the tribe, and the disloyal people who were expelled because of their many crimes and transgressions in the tribe, so they were expelled in the hearing of everyone, and these disloyal people may seek refuge in another tribe, so it disowns them and considers them among its sons
And the last category: They are the slaves who were brought from foreign countries and serve the people of the tribe.
However, the urban people enjoyed the luxury and prosperity that the son of the rough desert was deprived of, and this luxury was reflected in their culture and poetic expressions, and in their stable and blessed lifestyle compared to the Bedouin at the time.
