The current constitution

The 2011 constitution came as a result of a popular and political movement calling for reform in Morocco by many movements, which began on Sunday February 20 2011, and after the high speech of King Mohammed VI on June 17, 2011, consultations began with political parties in order to reformulate some provisions that were tainted by some defects and damage. Conflicts and disagreements, such as the holiness of the King and his being considered the Prince of the Faithful and Commander of the Royal Armed Forces, but even in the current constitution, these issues remained the same.

But the constitution now defines Morocco as a "constitutional, parliamentary, democratic and social kingdom" that pursues the participatory principle to extinguish the nature of communication between the king and his people.

The king is the head of state, unifying the country, guarantor of its stability, territorial integrity and sovereignty, and the first servant of the country.

The constitutional amendments followed the impact of the Arab Spring to extend more powers to the prime minister to become head of government and head of the executive authority in the country and to reduce some of the king's powers. Thus, the king is obligated under the modern constitution to appoint the prime minister from the party that wins the most seats in parliament, which implies democratic progress. It also came to separate power, to give parliament all the mechanisms of democratic control over the government, and to guarantee the right of the parliamentary opposition to express opinion towards the government.

The constitution has placed itself hostage to adherence to a set of man-made laws (organizational laws) that accompany the constitution in the modern democratic approach, and thus the new constitution came to give an exceptional Moroccan touch to the Arab Spring.
