Chapter 1 General Principles

Section 6 Ampere Capacity

Article 16

The ampere capacity of low-voltage insulated wires, single-core and multi-core insulated cables shall comply with the following requirements:

1. The allowable temperature of wire insulation is specified in Table 16-1.

2. For metal conduit wiring, the ampere capacity shall be selected in accordance with Table 16-3, Table 16-4 and Table 16-6. The same applies to the ampere capacity of metal flexible conduit wiring.

3. The ampere capacity of PVC pipe wiring shall be selected in accordance with Table 16-7. The ampere capacity of HDPE pipe wiring and non-metallic flexible conduit wiring is also the same.

4. For insulated cables with more than 10 current-carrying conductors or more than 10 cores of current-carrying conductors installed in the same conduit, the ampere capacity should be multiplied by the correction factor in Table 16-8.

5. Insulated wires do not include neutral wires, ground wires, control wires and signal wires. However, if there is harmonic current in the neutral line of a single-phase three-wire or three-phase four-wire circuit, it should be regarded as a current-carrying conductor and be included in the calculation.

6. When insulated conductors are installed in places where the ambient temperature is higher than 35°C, their ampere capacity should be multiplied by the correction factor listed in Table 16-9.
