There are actually several ways to decide on a tide name. There are four things that we know of: the lunar calendar, the moon phase, the Japan Meteorological Agency, and MIRC.

This app displays tide names using the "lunar calendar". This is because newspapers and fishing equipment store calendars use this method and are commonly used.
