Nobody expected the disaster. The Third World War was avoided by the great powers of the East and the West, who worked together for world peace and unity. The revolutionary transformation of agriculture has eradicated hunger. As travel opportunities increased, people became more familiar with and understood each other.

July 21, 2022 started like any other day. The weather was promising, and the holovision also reported pleasant news. A government spokesman is proud to announce that it now supplies 99 percent of households and 70 percent of industry with solar power. Maybe it was a mutant virus, maybe a fatal bacterium was released from a military laboratory, but it was a mere guess, and nobody really cared, everyone was just interested in surviving the epidemic.

Civilization collapsed at a frightening rate. The survivors did not know what their lives were due to, or how long the grace would last for them. Violent violence became the law. Drunken riots, destruction has prevailed. A slice of bread has already been murdered. Large cities quickly became depopulated due to hunger and the danger of epidemics.

Six months after the outbreak, the rest of humanity was divided into two; to those who wanted order and peace, and to those who were in a state of turmoil. The former were concentrated in fortified small towns. They chose leaders from among themselves and organized their self-sufficiency. Soldiers, farmers, doctors became the homes of these small towns, people who wanted to rebuild civilization. The other group lived a wild, rough life outside the walls. They were the new barbarians. They rushed into motor and car gangs, terrorizing and destroying every crumb of civilization.

You are one of those lucky survivors who can live in the city called New Hope. You are working on an alarm system that is more effective than before to help your city knock on your door. There are two members of the city council who seem very excited. They say they received a radio message from the south of San Anglo's reinforced oil refinery. They are willing to give 10,000 liters of gasoline in exchange for grain and seeds.

The council accepted the offer, and now it's up to you to decide who should take the crop bags to San Anglo and take the gasoline truck from there. This is a long and dangerous road in a wild, illegal country. They tell you they thought you were, and the council considered you best suited to the task. You get a Dodge Interceptor on the road, equipped with machine guns, radios, roof-mounted rocket launchers, loudspeakers, and all kinds of other protective equipment, such as oil spill or curb lances, armor and bulletproof windows.
