English is the main language in international communication and world relations. The increasingly flat world with the development of information and communication technology means that relationships can no longer be limited by national boundaries. The 2013 curriculum recognizes the important role of English.
The 2013 curriculum is designed to welcome the 21st century learning model. In it there is a shift in learning from students being informed to students finding out from various learning sources beyond the boundaries of teachers and educational units. The role of English in this learning model is very central considering that more learning resources use English than other languages.
In line with the above roles, English language learning for Class VII SMP/MTs is designed to improve students' English language skills. The presentation uses a text-based learning approach, both oral and written, by placing English as a means of communicating, thinking and processing feelings. Understanding the type, rules and context of a text is emphasized so that it makes it easier for students to grasp the meaning contained in a text and present information, ideas, thoughts and feelings in text form contextually so that it is easily understood by others.
The communication presented here is everyday communication. For several schools and regions that have taught English starting from the final elementary/MI classes, the material presented needs to be enriched with additional material adapted to students' abilities, although the learning structure still refers to the model in this book.
As part of the 2013 Curriculum which emphasizes the importance of balancing attitudes, knowledge and skills, English language skills are formed through continuous learning. This model of learning begins with increasing competency knowledge about the types, rules and context of a text, followed by competency skills in presenting written and oral texts, both planned and spontaneous, with correct pronunciation and intonation. This continuous learning leads to the formation of an attitude of language politeness.
This book describes the minimum effort that students must make to achieve the expected competencies. In accordance with the approach used in the 2013 Curriculum, students are invited to dare to look for other learning resources that are available and spread widely around them. The teacher's role in increasing and adapting students' absorption capacity to the availability of activities in this book is very important. Teachers can enrich it by creating various forms of other appropriate and relevant activities originating from the social and natural environment.
As the second edition, this book is very open to input and will continue to be revised for improvements. Therefore, we invite readers to provide criticism, suggestions and input to improve and perfect the next edition. For this contribution, we thank you.
