I've never been good at growing plants. I don't have a green thumb, and I'm pretty sure my black thumb is poisonous to the plant life around me. That's why this task was given to me: it's time for you all to learn about botany!

I have a confession to make. I am a botanist at heart, but I don't know the first thing about plants. In fact, for a long time I hated them. When my mom would try and get me to help her with the garden in our backyard, all of those green vines and furry leaves made me sick to my stomach because they reminded me too much of snakes! It wasn't until college that things started looking up for these misunderstood organisms. Nowadays I find myself walking around outside taking pictures of plant life more often than not (and no longer afraid). The following list highlights some really great examples from around campus where you can go take your own nature photos if you want to explore what makes University Park such an awesome place

I'm a botanist and I like plants. Plants are interesting because they're alive, but not always green. They have leaves that grow on them, flowers that give off smells to attract pollinators, roots for water and nutrients, stems that transport the plant's food up from the ground into its body. It's fun trying to figure out what kind of plant you are looking at just by looking at it! There is so much more about plants than most people think.

If you want to learn about plants, there are many ways to do so. You can take a class at the local community college or university, read books on the subject, watch documentaries online and find out what plant species live in your area.
