The town of Lachute, originally called “The Chute Settlement” by the Americans and Scots from Jericho, Vermont, who settled it in 1798, transformed over time under the influence of French Canadians to become the town of Lachute we know today. Faithful to the tradition of their country of origin, the Scottish Ayers family began building the first holes of the Lachute golf club in 1923. Twenty years later, driven by the growing popularity of this noble sport, 13 additional holes were built with a second hole course. Stanley Thompson undertook the expansion in 1947-1949.

Founded in 1923 by Gilbert E. Ayers, the Lachute Golf Club is recognized across Canada as one of the most beautiful places to play golf. Located at the foot of the Laurentians, more than 400 acres of land offer two distinctive courses, built by world-renowned architects Stanley Thompson and Howard Watson, in a most majestic natural setting. Marked by an almost mythical past, the establishment has had the honor of seeing legends such as Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino, Nick Price and LPGA legend Judy Rankin pass on its greens.
