Contagem is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Minas Gerais, Southeastern Brazil. It belongs to the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte and is the third most populous municipality of the state, gathering 659 070 inhabitants according to estimate of 2018. [1]

Over time, the geographical limits of the municipality were lost due to its horizontal growth towards the capital, causing an intense conurbation with Belo Horizonte. Contagem is part of the Grande BH, being one of the most important municipalities of this urban agglomeration, mainly due to its large industrial park.

The BR-381 (Fernão Dias - access to São Paulo), BR-262 (access to Vitoria and Triângulo Mineiro) and the highway system, which is designed to carry an intense flow of vehicles and cargo, and BR-040 (access to Brasília and Rio de Janeiro).
