Itabuna BA

Itabuna is a Brazilian municipality in the south of the state of Bahia. It has a total area of ​​432,244 km² and is located about 426 kilometers from the capital of Bahia, being around 333 kilometers away from that city via ferryboat. It is the fifth most populous city in Bahia, and in northeastern Brazil, the city occupies the tenth place. Its population, according to estimates of the IBGE of 2018, was of 212 740 [4] inhabitants. The city of Itabuna, together with the neighboring municipality of Ilhéus, forms an urban agglomeration classified by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics as a regional capital B, exerting influence in more than 40 municipalities that, together, present a little more than one million inhabitants. According to a survey carried out by the United Nations Development Program, the municipality of Itabuna presents the third best Human Development Index of the State of Bahia, behind only the capital of Bahia, Salvador, and the municipality of Lauro de Freitas.

It is the native land of the writer Jorge Amado, who describes it in some of his works, such as Gabriela, Cravo and Cinnamon and Terras do Sem Fim.
