This book is a handbook for Muslim students at Yogyakarta State University (UNY) in particular and a general reading book for anyone as reference material. This book is an expansion of an existing book which was first published in 1997, the next edition in 2002, and the last edition in 2008.

This 2016 edition is the Revised Edition in which there are additions from aspects of updating information and harmonizing ideas among fellow writers. This alignment is carried out in line with the development of the times where science and technology findings are also developing. These findings will more or less raise Islamic problems which will affect the pattern of interpretation of the Koran and hadith as the main sources of Islamic teachings.

This book consists of 14 chapters. Chapters I to chapter VI are the foundations of Islamic thought starting from the concept of man and religion, Islam's religion rahmatan lil 'alamin, sources of Islamic teaching law, the concept of faith development, the concept of Islamic worship and the concept of morals and character building in Islam. Furthermore, chapter VII to chapter XIV is a presentation of problems that require explanation from the Koran and hadith through integrated interpretation, not partial interpretation, so that in this case the reader can understand the meaning of Islam which is rahmatan lil 'alamin and practice its values ​​in everyday life. day.
