The Elberfeld Bible is an important German translation of the Bible, first published in 1855 (New Testament) and 1871 (Old Testament). Although it was never able to find the same distribution as the Luther Bible, it has gained many friends over the years due to its conceptual translation and loyalty to the text. The literalness of the translation takes precedence over linguistic beauty. This made it the model for many other translations.
