In the summer of 1816, Lord Byron invited the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley and his young wife, Mary, to his home in Switzerland. The days are rainy and the host proposes that everyone write a ghost story. Thus will arise 'Frankenstein, or the modern Prometheus', published in 1818 and considered the first novel in the genre of science fiction. Trapped in the ice of the Arctic, Victor Frankenstein is rescued by Captain Walton. He will dedicate his last days to narrate the tragic history of his experiments in search of the power to endow life with inert matter and how the being that he created would rebel against him.
