GreenSC Social Energy Study

This app is a tool in the exploration of energy consumed while maintaining social networks from the GreenSC Project team at the University of Michigan School of Information. This app is the collection tool to gather data for the exploration of this topic.

The permissions requested for phone, sms, and location are to count the frequency and number of contacts made and to determine the mode of transit used while communicating.

This app does NOT collect phone number or the content of messages. It does collect an associated generated identifier for a contact that is not a phone number or name to count the number of time a communication with a contact occurs.

To learn more about the project's data collection please visit the Methods and Data section of the GreenSC website. Registration with the GreenSC website and entering your activation code is required before any Android based data is collected.

This is app data collection is part of an NSF funded EAGER grant Award ID 1141517. The study, app, and data collection has Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval and oversight reference number.
