In the past year, we have seen that the Covid-19 pandemic has affected our lives to a very great extent. All of us have been forced to adapt to the new way of life and there have been some major limitations on the movement of people. The restrictions to travel abroad or to other locations have made social life really difficult and boring. People need individuals or communities in their area with similar interests who they can physically meet or at the least get in touch with, in these times of Covid restrictions. Therefore this app, GruP will help people find a social life in their proximity. People can broadcast messages to find answers to questions, find partners for hackathons, form a group for sports or maybe plan a group study for a common module together. The possibilities that this app can be used for are infinite. The previously mentioned are just some of the lot.

GruP is aimed to provide a local cross-platform message broadcasting app for public use. It will work according to an individual device’s geolocation or any custom location given by the user and his interests. It will broadcast the user’s message to the people near his/her location who are using the app depending on whether they share similar interests, which will be found out by using the proprietary algorithm. Users can choose to share their interests in their profile by adding tags that will expose brief details about their interests.

The app will offer a social networking service that can be accessed via android devices with internet connectivity. Users will be allowed to create their profiles and will have an option to reveal or hide their identities while broadcasting their messages. It will help connect people and bring groups of people with similar interests together. It will foster the growth of communities and promote social interaction. The default radius of the broadcasted message will be limited to 500m but the user can always decide to change, that is, increase or decrease the range of the broadcasted messages.

Our app helps the users to make friends, unlike the other existing social media apps which helps you to just find your existing friends. For finding friends you need to first make friends, our app will help you find new friends by matching them to you on the basis of your location and interests.

For security and privacy purposes we do not store the location of the users, unlike the other apps. Rather, we store the location of the broadcasts created by the users. Using this feature, people can make friends in different parts of the world regardless of their physical presence in that particular location.

Unlike giving recommendations to the users that might prove useless for them, we allow users to add tags to their profile so that they can match with people of their own interests.

It is an online space for people to interact. It is like an online playground where you can find people doing things that interest you and you can join them and interact with them.
