India is urbanising at a very fast pace and with the coming of the proposed Smart Cities, we will not slow down any time soon. Apart from the economic progress urbanisation promises, this change in India’s landscape brings with it its own problems, not least of which being solid waste management.Our cities need to cope and find sustainable solutions to the heaps of garbage increasing day by day.

Recognising this need, the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) launched by the government on October 2nd 2014 has ‘Solid Waste Management’ as one of its components. Any programme will bear fruit only with the participation of citizen from inception to implementation. Citizens are the ultimate stakeholders who shall certify the success of a programme. The project ‘I track SBM’ leverages this concept to gauge the success/outcome in one component of SBM, the Solid Waste management (SWM) - ensuring cleanliness and hygiene in urban public places. The goal of this project is to provide evidence to the system to take cognisance and act.

PAC is developing a platform for government and citizens to easily monitor the cleanliness of its cities with regard to Solid Waste Management. In a bid to tap technology to connect citizens with the authorities, PAC has developed an app that lets any citizen monitor SBM.
