Kabir (Mezar) Duaları

In order to visit a cemetery in accordance with Islam, one must perform ablution, perform a two-rakat prayer and then send the reward to the soul of the deceased.

When you come to the grave, you greet with the qibla behind you and your face towards the grave. If possible, stand at the foot of the grave.

The grave is not kissed or touched. In the grave, the beginning and end of Surah Al-Baqara, Surah Yasin-i Sharif, Tebâreke, Tekâsur, İhlâs-ı Şerif and Fâtiha or known surahs are read and presented to the soul of the deceased.

It is stated in the Hadith-i Sharif that,

"If, while visiting the grave of a believer, he says, 'Allahumma innî es'elüke-bi-hurmet-i Muhammed aleyhisselâm en lâ tü'azzibe hâzelmeyyit,' the torment of that dead person will be relieved (removed) until the Day of Judgment."

A person who comes to the cemetery stands up and says, Assalamu alaikum, oh Ahl al-dâr-il kavm-ilmü'minîn! Inna Inshallahu an karîbin says bikum lâhikûn. Then, he recites the Basmala, eleven Ikhlas and one Fatiha. Then, one should recite the prayer: Allahümme rabbel-ecsâdilbâliyeh, vel-ızâmin nahire-tilletî harecet mineddünyâ ve hiye bike mü'minetün, edhıl aleyhâ revhan min indike ve salamen minnî.
