Latin Nouns
About Latin Nouns
Latin noun declension endings grammar practice
Latin Nouns is a study tool designed to help you learn and practice their noun endings. It is more than a simple flashcard app. Behind the scenes, Latin Nouns leverages the power of Spaced Repetition to predict when you are about to forget a piece of knowledge. Latin Nouns does this all automatically and provides visual clues as to each piece of knowledge’s strength.
When you first start Latin Nouns you are taking to Main Menu where each Case/Number pairing is shown for each of the declensions. Each is a button that is initially colored gray. A button with a gray color means that knowledge has yet to be reviewed.
By clicking on any of the buttons you are taken to a quiz that ask you to decline a Latin noun into the selected form. As you get question right or wrong, Latin Nouns is calculating how well you know the material and uses that information to predict the optimal number of days until you should review it again. After the quiz you will return to the Main Menu where you will see the selected button will now be colored green.
As the days go by, Latin Nouns will update the colors of each of the buttons to reflect your knowledge’s strength. The buttons will change from green to red as you get closer to forgetting. You are free to review any of the pieces of knowledge at anytime, but when a button turns red you risk forgetting the knowledge and having to start over from the beginning.
Initially your knowledge will degrade quickly and you will have to review the material multiple times a week. But as you master the knowledge the number of days between the reviews will continue to grow so you will only have to review the material every once in awhile.
Latin Nouns also offers a Custom Practice option. Selecting this option will allow you to pick and choose exactly what knowledge you are quizzed on. You can mix and match any number of cases, numbers, genders, and declensions. With Custom Practice you can even choose to practice everything at once! But be aware, Latin Nouns isn’t as effective when quizzing with that many concepts at once: the quiz will only have one or two items from each concept so false positives/negatives are possible.
