Lenses are thought to be made of several rectangular prisms stacked in a well-defined manner. In a convex lens, they are stacked in such a way that their larger bases always face towards the optical centre. But in a concave lens, the rectangular prisms are so arranged that their larger bases face away from the optical centre.
