Lexi (derived from the word Lexicon) was created and coded by Koltan Huget using the Python programming language and kivyMD GUI. The definitions are provided (with permission) by Merriam-Webster's Collegiate® Dictionary.
Lexi fills a niche. I created it to be the most comprehensive vocabulary builder for not only adding words to your vocabulary, but, more importantly, inculcating you with accurate definitions so that you can confidently express yourself using precise language. Various word lists are included, but a key feature of Lexi is the ability to easily add any words from the dictionary to a custom list, thus building the user's vocabulary by testing his or her understanding of these words via the five gametypes.
What makes Lexi revolutionary among vocabulary builders is its most difficult gametype, wherein the user is supplied only with a word and must type out the definition to the best of his or her recollection. This typed definition is compared to the actual definition by an algorithm and presented to the user as a % match. Through this hardest gametype, accurate definitions are enforced in the user's mind and eventually mastered.
Gametypes:
1) Multiple Choice (easy): the user is presented with a word and four definitions and must select the correct definition.
2) Given Definition (medium): the user is presented only with a definition and must provide the correct word.
3) Given Word (hard): The user is presented with a word and must provide the correct definition. An algorithm computes how closely this guessed definition resembles the real definition and, if the % match is above 70%, marks it correct. This is the real test of a user's understanding of a word.
4) Synonym Toast Crunch: List as many synonyms as you can of the word provided. By default, you must list 10% of the word's synonyms for the question to be marked correct, but this can be increased in the settings menu. Internet connection required.
5) Mark Antony(ms): Same as gametype 4, but antonyms instead of synonyms.
Additional Features:
-3000+ GRE words already included
-Stat tracking lets you know which words you've mastered
-To add a word to your list, navigate to the "add word" screen and simply input the word into the text box and the definition will be automatically retrieved from Merriam-Webster's Collegiate® Dictionary and can be edited to suit your needs.
