About Map My Mind

A tool which aims to help you navigate the first steps to understand yourself!

Welcome to MAP MY MIND!

Covid 19 has exposed the gross inequalities with which we operate and has unveiled these systems of oppression which tend to cause trauma, harm and feelings of distress. More than anything, people are lonely and due to lockdowns and social distancing norms, have had to spend a lot of time with themselves.

In this alone time, we as a society have found immense power - we see initiative and drive and so many people have started their own ventures. But what we have also seen, is an overflow of mental health problems, feelings of loss, and most of all, perhaps, feelings of inadequacy and unworthiness. Our relationship with ourselves is being questioned every single day.

With Map My Mind, we hope to provide the first step to this recovery process. We are excited to help you navigate the first steps of understanding yourself, your mood and your mind which gives an insight into your level of self-esteem. Map My Mind is an application that helps a person take a basic diagnostic test (adapted from Rosenberg's self-esteem scale) to check their self-esteem. This consists of 10 short questions that help a person analyse their esteem and then recommends a resource pool for mental health.

This is not a professional assessment or service.

Kindly seek help from a professional in case you experience any form of trauma or uneasiness.

A LITTLE ABOUT SELF-ESTEEM:

Self-esteem is used to describe a person's overall subjective sense of personal worth or value. In other words, self-esteem may be defined as how much you appreciate and like yourself regardless of the circumstances.

HOW I DEVELOPED THE APP:

I created 4 sections on this app, including a disclaimer section, quiz section, result section, and suggestions section.

The quiz consists of 10 questions having 4 options where each question is scored differently according to the scale that has been used.

The result page gives two possible outcomes, either normal or low, depicted by an emoji.

The suggestions page has recommendations such as yoga and links to a few online resources that can help a person boost their personal worth or self-esteem.

I used Python, SQL and Java for the development of this app.

CREDITS AND SOURCES USED:

In the creation of this app, I used Rosenberg's self-esteem scale which is a standardised test to analyse a person's self-esteem level. I would also like to thank my teachers and mentors for introducing the subject to me with so much enthusiasm, such that it has pushed me in creating this app to help people during difficult times of the pandemic.
