MyLung app aims to assist patients with COPD

MyLung app aims to assist patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with integrated features in one IT product. Those features provide a mechanism that assists patients to reach the relevant information about COPD disease, to understand the consequences of disease, and to encourage patients to self-manage their conditions.

Designed Features:

Education:

For the education mechanism, there are two design features presented in the mobile-based assistive app. The first feature, is called “Learn COPD,” that is designed to increase a patient’s level of understanding about COPD by providing a reliable educational content. The design of this feature emphasized ease of use and interactive user interface principles. The “Learn COPD” feature includes information about the lung and COPD impact in general.

Smoking Cessation:

Smoking cessation feature helps patients with text awareness nonfictions. MyLung app asks patients to assess the smoking consumption level and to measures their ability to quit smoking by completing a questionnaire. Based on the questionnaire answers, smoking patients will receive personalized motivational messages.

Outdoor Pollution:

This feature raises awareness about the risk of outdoor pollution. Breathing clean air is essential to maintain healthy lifestyle. With this feature, patients will be receiving notifications about pollution level based on their current geolocation. The information of the air index will be provided from World Air Quality Index AQI API.

Monitoring Feature:

This feature allows patients to self-monitor their symptoms and daily activities. The COPD symptoms will be entered as scale measurements using a short Clinical COPD Questionnaire (CCQ). CCQ measures health status and assess health-related quality of life (HRQL) for patients with COPD. The CCQ is a 10-item that are divided into three domains: symptom state, functional state and mental state. Patients are required to respond to each item on a seven-point Likert scale like. The symptoms include breathlessness, mucus level, fatigue, and cough.
