O3Meter

Ozone is prominent as one of the major pollutants in the Earth's atmosphere. Originally present due purely to natural phenomena, today it is mostly a product of anthropogenic activities such as chemical reactions caused by emissions from combustion engines used for transport. State-of-the-art methods for measuring ozone rely on expensive devices using ultraviolet light, but when it was first discovered ozone was measured in a much more "artisanal" manner, using paper strips where the measurement depended on a form of classification by an expert observer. This method continues to be useful today, both for educational purposes and in instrumental meteorological data recovery.

O3METER is a piece of software, developed to remove the subjectivity introduced by the visual perception of the observer during ozone measurement using the traditional technique, known as the "Schönbein method". O3METER works on personal computers and smartphones with Android systems and is licensed under a GPLv3 license to assure full scientific reproducibility and for educational purposes.
