Pétanque (Boule)

The rules of this game are the rules of Petanque.

This game is primarily a multiplayer game, but it is also possible to play it as a single player as a training session.

Playing the game.

Start by clicking on the "Player button" and then click on the "Add button" to add a new player. Continue to add and select all players that are "hosted" on "your" phone. Finally click on all players that you want to participate in the game.

Next click on the "Common preferences button" and set the "Game mode" to "single player" or "multiplayer".

Then, when playing as a single player, select "Training" under the "Overflow menu". Otherwise when playing a multiplayer game, one player should select "Create QR code" under the "Overflow menu" while the other players should select "Scan QR code" under the "Overflow menu".

Finally click on the "New game button" to start the game.

To choose the player whose turn it is to throw, tap on the "Throwing button" and then click on the player in the drop-down menu.

Press and hold your finger on the "Throwing button". The current throwing direction is displayed as a dashed line. When you rotate your phone, the throwing direction changes. When you are satisfied, make a throwing motion and when you lift your finger from the "Throwing button" your ball is thrown.

NOTE that if you experience that the throwing direction is jittery, this may be because your phone is too close to your fellow players' phones.

During a game you can at any time click on the "Scoreboard button" to see the current standings.

When an end is finished one player must click on the "New end button" to start a new end.

When a game is finished one player must click on the "New game button" to start a new game.

If you click on the "Ruler button" the distances of the balls to the jack are toggled.

Configure.

The preferences in the game is divided into common preferences the "Common preferences" which are preferences that MUST be the same for all players in the game and individual player preferences the "Player preferences".

To play a multiplayer game, first click on the "Common preferences button" and then set "Game mode" to "multiplayer". NOTE that one player should "host" the "hub" (which is responsible for distributing player "actions" to all other players in the game). The "hub player" is the player that selects "Create QR code" under the "Overflow menu" which generates a QR code image that the other players must scan (by selecting "Scan QR code" under the "Overflow menu") to connect to the "hub player".

If you want to leave a multiplayer game, click on the "Common preferences button" and then set "Game mode" to "single player".

By clicking on the "Common preferences button", it is possible to:

- choose the "Terrain surface" which gives the coefficient of friction of the surface, NOTE that all players must choose the same terrain surface,

- choose the "Ball size", NOTE that all players must choose the same ball size,

- choose the "Game mode", NOTE that all players wanting to participate in a multiplayer game should select "multiplayer" otherwise they should select "single player".

By clicking o then "Player preferences button", it is possible to:

- choose the "Ball speed" (1 means low, 3 means high) (can be used if you have trouble throwing),

- choose "Handedness" whether left or right is preferred,

- choose the "Ball color",

- enter the "Initial throwing height" i.e. how high the ball is above the ground when throwing,

- choose the "Terrain layout" i.e. how to visualize the terrain, "standard" or "perspective",

- choose "Sound effects" volume (0 means no sound effects).

To restore the preferences default values, press the "Reset button".

You could always add, delete or select/unselect players by clicking on the "Player button".
