Silent Hill: Townfall comes out Thursday, September 24, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and PC. That's the date Konami put on the table with its release trailer in June, and it's the one worth planning around. Some early reports floated September 23, so if you saw that number, ignore it. The confirmed date is September 24.

Townfall is a first-person Silent Hill set on a Scottish island in 1996, priced at $49.99. Not a remake. Not a spinoff side story. This is the next mainline entry, and it follows Silent Hill f from 2025.

If you have been tracking this one since the 2022 announcement, you already know the wait ran long. Here's what you actually get on day one.

Silent Hill: Townfall Release Date and Price

September 24, 2026 is a Thursday, which is a normal slot for a global launch. No staggered regional rollout, no "coming soon" language. Konami has been firm on this date since the summer announcement, and the official release-date trailer backs it up.

The price is 49.99 USD. That puts it below the usual $70 ceiling for a new console release. For a game this size, with the scope of a single island and a story built around one character, the number makes sense. Wishlist it and pre-loading should open a few days before launch.

    • Release date: Thursday, September 24, 2026
    • Price: 49.99 USD
    • Deluxe Edition: includes a two-day Advanced Access period
    • Platforms: PlayStation 5, PC

That two-day Advanced Access window is the main pre-order hook. It's locked to the Deluxe Edition, so if you want to start on September 22, you pay for the upgrade.

Silent Hill: Townfall Platforms: PS5, Steam, and Epic Games Store

Townfall ships on PlayStation 5 and PC. On PC you can buy it on Steam or the Epic Games Store, which means no storefront exclusivity and no waiting on one client.

*This is a PS5 and PC game, no Android release.

St. Amelia: The Silent Hill: Townfall Setting and Story

The game takes place in 1996 on St. Amelia, an island town off the north coast of Scotland. It's the first Silent Hill title set in Scotland, and the first with a first-person camera for the whole runtime. Both of those are departures, and bo th shape how the game feels.

You play as Simon Ordell, a man called back to St. Amelia to put things right. What he finds is a town where fragments of the past keep rising to the surface, and where the geography itself is part of the puzzle. The Scottish coastal setting does a lot of the atmospheric work. Cold water, old buildings, a community that knows more than it says.

If you've played the earlier games for their small-town dread, this keeps that. The shift is in how you look at it.

The CRT TV Mechanic and Mid-90s Puzzles

The signature device in Townfall is a CRT television. Point it at your surroundings and it reveals enemies that are hidden in plain sight. Enemies you can't see with your own eyes show up on the screen, which turns the TV from a prop into a survival tool.

The puzzles lean hard on the 1996 setting, and several of them recreate mid-90s technology as the actual mechanism. Reviewers who've gone hands-on keep singling out the puzzle design as one of the strongest parts of the game. That's a good sign for a series where puzzle logic has always been half the identity.

The screen does more than spot enemies. It prints but doesn't say out loud, and those words are your anchor. When a note appears on the TV, that's often the moment you understand what the room is for.

First-Person Perspective: What the Change Means for Players

Silent Hill has been a third-person series for most of its life. Townfall moves the camera behind the eyes and never gives it back. That shift is the single biggest design decision in the game, and it's the one critics are split on most. Watch a minute of footage and you'll see it: no character on screen, nothing to hide behind.

Game Informer landed at 8.25/10, calling it "an affecting one buoyed by the first-person perspective." Other outlets have praised the atmosphere and the puzzle work. Some critics think the shift to first person falls flat for a series that built its language around watching a character from behind. Both readings are out there, and both come from people who finished it.

    Practical effects of first person:

    • You lose the third-person character framing, so you spend less time looking at Simon and more time looking at what he looks at
    • Tension builds differently, since you can't see what's behind you
    • The CRT device reads more like an item in your hands than an animation in the corner of the screen
    • Motion sickness is a real consideration if you usually play in third person

Mixed-to-positive is the fair summary of the early reception. Nobody is calling it a disaster. Nobody is calling it the best in the series either.

What Critics Are Saying About Silent Hill: Townfall

The review picture at launch is best read as a range, not a verdict. Game Informer's 8.25 is the number that gets quoted most, and the note attached to it points at the first-person camera as the thing holding the experience together. Other outlets have focused their praise on the puzzles and the Scottish setting, which suggests the game's strengths are consistent even where opinions differ.

The criticism is narrower than the praise. The first-person shift is the lightning rod for critics who feel it removes something the series depended on. That's a design disagreement, not a technical failure. If you liked the fixed-camera tension of the older games, this one asks you to trade it for something more immediate.

A word on community discussion: forums like r/silenthill have been running threads on the perspective change since the reveal, and the mood there is about the same as the press. Some players are sold on it. Some aren't. Take either side with the same grain of salt.

Silent Hill: Townfall matters for what it does to Silent Hill's range. Silent Hill f moved the series to Japan. Townfall moves it to Scotland and changes the camera. Two consecutive entries that refuse to reuse the same setting or the same framing is a different posture than the series has had in years, and it's the most interesting thing about this release.

For players, that means Townfall is a safe entry point if you've never touched a Silent Hill game. You don't need the earlier titles to follow Simon's story, and the first-person view is more familiar to anyone who plays modern horror. Long-time fans get a shorter, cheaper game that still runs on the puzzles and the dread.

So if you've been holding off on the series because you don't know where to start, September 24 is a good door.
