1. In 2019, the Scripps National Spelling Bee ran out of words that might challenge the contestants and ended up having 8 winners. They winners coined themselves the “Octochamps.”

2. The Scripps National Spelling Bee ended with two winners in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

3. The winning word of the first Scripps National Spelling Bee competition was “gladiolus,” a type of flower. The winning word in last year's competition was "bougainvillea," another type of flower.
