Where did I put that thing?

Store & Forget is a private, offline home inventory app for Android. Take a photo of something as you put it away, give it a name, drop it in an "area" and a "spot" (a shelf, a drawer, a bin), and stop holding it in your head. Months later, search by name or browse the spot you remember — "the small black cable for the laptop", "the spare HDMI", "the warranty papers".

How it works

1. Photo. Tap Scan, snap the item (or pick from your library).

2. Describe. Tap Smart Scan and it fills in a sensible name, description, and tags from the photo. Edit anything that's wrong.

3. File. Pick which area and which spot in that area. Save.

That's it. Next time you forget where it is, open the app, type a hint, and the app tells you.

What's inside

- Areas → Spots → Items hierarchy, organised under the Places tab. Build it to match how your house is actually organised.

- Multi-photo items. Add a "spec sheet" photo alongside the main photo for things like packaged products, where the printed spec card is more useful than the box itself.

- Edit anything later. Move an item to a different spot, rename an area, swap photos, change tags.

- Smart Scan. Press one button and a Gemini vision model suggests a name + description + tags from the photo. You stay in control of what gets saved.

- Quick search. Type a hint and the app searches across item names and descriptions to surface what you're after.

- Free quota. 20 free Smart Scans per install — enough to feel out whether it's useful for you. After that, top up with a credit pack or earn more scans by watching a short ad, all in the app.

- Manual mode. Everything works without Smart Scan too — just type the name yourself and skip the photo step.

Privacy

You choose how much leaves your device. Signed out, the app is fully on-device: your inventory — every photo, item, area and spot — lives in a private SQLite database on your phone, with no account and nothing synced anywhere.

The app uses the network in a few clearly-bounded cases:

- Smart features. When you use Smart Scan, the item's photo is sent to Google's Gemini API. Whenever you save or edit an item, the item's text (name, description, specs, tags, notes) is sent to Gemini to build a search-index vector that is then stored on your device.

- Ads. The free app shows ads through Google AdMob.

- Optional cloud backup (sign-in). If you sign in with Google, you can back up and sync your inventory to your own private Google Drive app folder, so you can restore it after a reinstall or on another device. It's off until you turn it on, and the backup lives in your Google account — not ours.

- Optional usage analytics (opt-in). If you're signed in, you can turn on "Share usage analytics" in Advanced Settings to send anonymous, behaviour-only events (for example: a scan was started, an item was saved) to Google Analytics for Firebase, so we can see what to improve. It never includes your inventory content — no item names, photos, descriptions, tags, notes, or area/spot names — and it's off by default and off entirely while signed out.

You can delete items in the app any time, use "Erase all data," or uninstall to wipe everything from your device. If you used Google Drive backup, that copy lives in your own Google account and you control it there.

Permissions

- Camera — to photograph items.

- Photos / media — to attach existing photos to an item.

If "you put it somewhere safe" is a sentence you have said too many times, this is the app for that.
