TaskForge: Obsidian Tasks

Your Obsidian tasks on your Android home screen. TaskForge turns the Markdown files in your vault into a to-do list and task manager with widgets, reminders, a kanban board and a calendar. Every edit goes back to the original file.

No account and nothing to import. Pick your Obsidian vault or any folder of Markdown files. TaskForge's file management tools find tasks and notes across internal storage, SD cards and sync folders. TaskForge watches the folder, so a change from Obsidian, a sync client or an AI agent shows up as soon as the file saves. The to-do list, kanban, notes and search are free.

Works with your Obsidian vault

Reads and writes Obsidian Tasks emoji fields, Dataview fields, Task Genius, and TaskNotes YAML frontmatter, with your own field mapping. Checkbox tasks inside any note and one-file-per-task notes both work.

Home screen widgets and reminders

Widgets for today, overdue, a tag, a saved filter or any section of a space, and they now refresh in vaults with tens of thousands of files. Check a task off without opening the app. Notifications for due and scheduled work, several reminders per task, and a daily summary. New in 3.1: mark a task persistent and its alerts stay until you finish it.

Calendar planner

Your device calendars sit beside your tasks in month, week and day views. New in 3.1, in beta: connect a Google or Outlook account to see and edit its events, calendars shared with you and your invitations. Every meeting gets a note, recurring meetings share one thread, and open action items carry forward.

Kanban board, lists and projects

Filtered lists, a kanban board with drag and drop, tags, contexts, projects, priorities, subtasks, checklists, recurring tasks, and start, scheduled and due dates. New in 3.1: your own properties, like client or area, to filter, sort, group and build boards by. Works as a task manager for GTD, daily planning or project management.

Notes and daily notes

Open, read and edit any note in your vault, next to the tasks inside it. Your vault gets a daily note, one tap from search or the calendar. Type /today or /date to insert a date. Note editing is in beta.

Quick add

Type a task the way you would say it, like "call Sam tomorrow 9am #work", and TaskForge fills in the date, time and tag.

Optional tools for your AI agent

The free taskforge CLI and local MCP server, installed separately on Windows, Mac or Linux, give compatible agents tools to read and edit tasks and notes. These tools run locally without network access. They do not include an AI assistant or subscription. Your chosen AI provider's account requirements and data handling still apply.

File system requirements and All files access

TaskForge is a document and file management app. Its core purpose is to locate, read, edit and organize the Markdown (.md) files in folders you pick across shared storage. It reads files in those folders, writes every edit back to the original file and watches them for changes made by other apps. Android's All files access permission (MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE) makes this possible; without it, TaskForge cannot open your folder and does not work. TaskForge does not upload your task or note files to its own servers.
