About End procrastination TaskSTART

As a developer with ADHD, this method helps me in getting started with my tasks.

I have 10 thoughts in my mind, I should do 5 things, but I would be happy with just one if I finally started.

I have been struggling with this for decades. Deadlines, time estimates, taking on too much. Hyperfocus often helped, but afterwards, I would be useless for days.

Then I found out that I have ADHD.

Many things started to make sense.

But then the desperation came and I asked myself if this will accompany me for the rest of my life?

No, it won't be this. I thought that if I know the cause of my struggles, maybe there can be a solution as well. So, I started researching ADHD hacks. I found many, as there are different types of ADHD. I began trying them out.

Some things worked in the beginning (perhaps because of the placebo effect?), and many things didn't work. But to be honest none of them turned out to be the ultimate solution.

I kept searching further.

And then I found this: focus on a point for 15-45 seconds and write down what you want to do right now. Only what you want to do NOW (not a list for the next week, month, or quarter). Hmm. Alright, let's give it a try.

It worked. The first time. I did what I wrote down. It felt a bit like being hypnotized. Okay, okay, maybe it's just a placebo.

The next day, I try it again, and it works again. Task accomplished. I'm making progress with my work!!! Hmmm. Could it be just a coincidence?

On the third day, I try it again, and it works once more. Ohhh, unbelievable. This is becoming a pattern.

The method piqued my curiosity. Why is this method working for me? What is this magic? And why is it so easy?

Focus on the point, write it down, do it. Focus on the point, write it down, do it. Focus on the point, write it down, do it.

Suddenly, Real Racing 2 came to my mind. It is a car racing game. I played it for a few months, sometimes even 3-5 hours a day. At the beginning, it wasn't difficult (playing against the computer), but when I started competing with real people, they left me standing. It was frustrating, I couldn't be that bad, even though I'm almost 40.

Okay, let's find a solution. Google > improving concentration. I came across a tip in a meditation forum: close your eyes, look slightly upwards, a whitish dot appears, focus on it. 0.5-1 minute. Okay, let's do it, let's test it out.

I improved my best time by more than 0.5 seconds. Oh, then let's use this. Before every race (while waiting for players to gather), I used this method. And I kept getting faster. After a month, I was already competing with the elite. Sometimes I even won. But the greatest thing about the method was its reliability. If I could focus for at least 15-20 seconds, my racing performance improved significantly.

Oh, so I've had something like this before. But that was a game, and this is a work. Anyway, I don't care, it works, that's the main point. Okay, I've got the first part of the method. The other part connects to this. I enter a focused state. This helps me to concentrate only on the one thing that comes next. If I write it down, it fills my thoughts. Of course, it's important for it to be realistic. That's why I should only write down one task at a time.

This is how my method developed. It was a little over a month ago. I use it every day, and I'm making steady progress. Suddenly, my work, life, and ideas became more manageable and organized.
